Ludhiana: 1. The three days 24th Regional WorkSkills Competition of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) started on 21st Feb. 2012 and concluded as on Friday, 23 Feb. 2012. Mr M C Munjal, Managing Director, Majestic Auto Ltd was the Chief Guest. 2. The event consisted of 120 participants competing in 8 different trades. At the end of the three-day contest, 42 participants were declared winners. 3. Participants were from industries such as Abhishek Industries, Denso India, Hero Moto Corp, Nestle India, Maruti Suzuki India, SRF, New Holland Tractors and Tata Motors Ltd. 4. "The experience has been rewarding, both professionally and personally," said Mr Nagaraja PPA KG – Hero MotoCorp Ltd, Gurgaon, winner in the Fitter trade category. He said the ATI offered an enabling environment to competitors to produce their best work. 5. CII Regional Committee on Skills has contently strived to raise the level of this competition by increasing the number of participants, by making it a learning and fun experience for experts and delegates, allowing for open communication between experts and participants. "Today, there is only one benchmark for skilled workers– and that is the world standard. It is incumbent upon industry to provide refresher training to its workers from time to time to ensure that they acquire internationally benchmarked skills. It is heartening to note that CII acknowledges this fact and has accordingly initiated many projects for skill development and enhancement while working closely with the government and industry", stated Mr M C Munjal, Managing Director, Majestic Auto Ltd while speaking at the Inaugural Session of the 24th Regional Workskills Competition held at ATI Ludhiana, Punjab. He complimented CII for this special endeavor to make both the industry and the workforce conscious about the requirement of the world-class expertise. "The initiative would go a long way in enhancing the competitiveness of the Indian Industry', Mr Munjal further added and urged CII to enhance the frequency of this annual competition as this competition promote expertise among youths and this is also a key to the growth of the industry. Mr N S Garbyal, Director, Advanced Training Institute welcomed the participants from different trades representing companies like, Abhishek Industries Ltd, Bharti Teletech, Hero Honda Motors Ltd, Nestle, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, Nestle Moga, SRF, New Holland Tractors Ltd, and Tata Motors Ltd. He assured his best possible cooperation in order to make the event the good learning experience for the participants. Mr Garbyal, Director ATI, Ludhiana also expressed his heartiest gratitude towards CII for taking up this skills initiative and for encouraging youths to achieve the high standards in their professional work environment. The winners will now compete at the National level Competition at FTI Bangalore in March 2012 and eventually and the National winners would represent India at International Worldskills Competition in Leipzig, Germany in 2013.
