New Delhi: As part of the reforms in the examination system in the university, Year Back system is totally in the overall interest of the students. The system is prevalent in most of the front ranking universities across the country, even in foreign countries.

Student's opposition and apprehension against this system is completely misplaced and unjustified. Presently we are reeling under a global education domain, emphasising quality in higher education and the modified examination system is atuned towards this direction and certainly beneficial for career advancement and placement of the students of IP University.

According to the amendments in the relevant clauses of the University's ordinance 10 related to the conduct and evaluation of examinations for programmes following the semester system of examination, a student will be promoted to the next academic year only if such student has obtained at least 50% of total credits of the ensuring academic year from which the promotion to next academic year is being sought and or, 90% of the total credits of all previous years excluding the credits of the ensuing academic year from which the promotion to the next academic year is being sought. This is a part of ongoing reforms in the interest of quality of education in Indraprastha University.

The most significant thing related to this system is that it mitigates the examination load upon a student. It is relatively convenient to qualify the exams in a phased manner with minimum load facilitating sequential step by step learning. So the prevalent system is in conformity with the system in well established and reputed universities of India and overseas.

However, University has the scheme for the welfare of the students that every one is permitted to complete their program in (N+2) years with further possibilities of mercy chances to get their degrees (where N is the duration of the programmes in years).
