Lucknow: The students of the UP Technical University (UPTU) will be attending a series of special lectures on information technology (IT) at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-D), on November 5. The lectures will be delivered by experts in the field of computer science (CS), including former Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft Bill Gates. The lectures are being jointly organised by Microsoft and IIT-D. UPTU Vice-Chancellor Prem Vrat told The Pioneer that around 350 students from various technical institutes of Noida, Ghaziabad, Greater Noida, Mathura and Agra regions would be selected to attend the lecture. He said the faculty members of these institutes would accompany their students but their number was yet to be decided. Prem Vrat said the lecture series was a big opportunity for CS stream students to learn new things in the field of IT and those interested in attend the lectures were required to contact UPTU's Noida office by October 31. He said the invitation to the lecture series was given by Chandra Sunderam, the chief of academics for Microsoft. Prof Vrat also said that from now onwards, the UPTU would monitor the projects of BTech students. He sais a decision to this effect was taken by the Academic Council in the interest of students. Hitherto, the projects were being handled by respective technical institutes and their teachers were evaluating them. The UPTU's external examiners were only reviewing the project during examination at the end of the year. Now monitoring committees will be constituted to regularly check the internal evaluation of projects and submit their reports to the external examiner for project examination.
