Report by India Education bureau, Aligarh: Addressing the Pre-Congress Symposium of 37th Indian Social Science Congress, the Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. General (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah said that the University has invited more than 90 Vice Chancellors of the country to attend the forthcoming session of the Indian Social Science congress between December 27-31, 2013 on "Building an Ecologically Sustainable Society".
Gen. Shah said that the topic of the congress is very relevant for the present day society. The scope of the conference has, therefore, been broadened to include as many as 32 disciplines of science forming a unity under the rubric of "Science of Nature-Human-Society".
Gen. Shah said that India is losing agricultural land every year because of rapid growth of Industrialization. We should promote co-existence between man and nature.
He said that to encourage the Research Value Papers, the university has granted exemption of registration fee of fifty faculty members and we are planning to exempt registration fee of another fifty research scholars of the University to facilitate their participation in the congress.
Prof. Shabahat Husain, Dean, Faculty of Social Science and local Secretary of the Congress, hoped that such a conference will definitely bring the university to the limelight and will also provide an opportunity to scientists of this institution to contribute on the topic for the furtherance of knowledge, which is what any academic institution aspires for.
He said that the scope of the Social Science Congress has widened to embrace all disciplines of science because Science is now defined as social and all branches of Science form a unity under the heading "Science of Nature".
Prof. Shabahat mentioned that today's preconference symposium is aimed at discussing issues pertaining to the focal themes and also to mobilize participation of scientists from AMU and elsewhere in the country in large numbers.
Dr. N.P. Chaudhary, General Secretary, Indian Academy of Social Science highlighted the objectives of the 37th Indian Social Science Congress and urged the Scientists and Social Scientists to participate in the deliberations.
Prof. Arif Hameed, Chairman, Department of Political Science proposed a vote of thanks.
