Bangalore: Indian Institute of Bangalore (IIMB) has obtained the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) accreditation, introduced by the European Foundation for Management Education (EFMD). This quality assessment system builds on existing national accreditation associations working in the field of management education and provides an accreditation framework at an international level, based on a set of criteria for business schools of high national and international standing. Institutions that are accredited by EQUIS must demonstrate not only high general quality in all dimensions of their activities, but also a high degree of internationalisation. The accreditation process involves a self-assessment procedure carried out by the Institution, followed by a peer review visit by an international team of auditors. An Institution must possess the right blend of high academic quality and professional relevance along with strong relationships with the corporate world in order to qualify for EQUIS. This achievement is a new milestone in IIMB's consistent efforts to offer excellence in management education and will help the Institute strive harder to sustain high standards in quality of education and research undertaken. EQUIS attaches particular importance to the creation of an effective learning environment favoring the development of students' managerial and entrepreneurial skills, and fostering their sense of global responsibility. It also looks for innovation in all respects, including programme design and pedagogy. The system is based on a commonly agreed framework of high quality standards for Institutions of international standing, with a respect for diversity and the legitimacy of national standards. Accreditation under the EQUIS system provides an indication that recognized Schools meet quality standards in their own environment and also satisfy international standards. Graduates who choose to study at an EQUIS accredited school can thus be assured that they are attending an institution with high international standards of quality. |
