Aligarh : With the commencement of MBA and BA-LLB classes at AMU Malappuram Centre, the initiative set in motion by Aligarh Muslim University was transformed into a reality. Speaking at the launching of classes ceremony held at the temporary AMU Centre complex at Perinthalmanna today, Shri M.A. Baby, Minister of Higher Education, Kerala said that the people of Kerala are extremely thankful for establishing a Centre of Excellence by AMU for the benefit of minorities and the people of Malabar region.

He observed that the dexterity and dedication displayed by AMU Vice Chancellor, Professor P.K. Abdul Azis is exemplary in the sense that the academic activity was being put in place in accordance with the promised time frame despite numerous hurdles he had to face in the process. He hoped that newly appointed faculty will carry forward the great task ahead of making a full-fledged centre of academic excellence.

AMU Vice Chancellor, professor P.K. Abdul Azis assured the gathering that the small step of starting management and law classes will certainly lead to the creation of an independent university of magnitude and repute by 2020.

He further added that the University has already developed a well designed plan and submitted to MHRD, a detailed project report to the tune of Rs. 500 crores each for creating two state-of-the-art centres at Murshidabad and Malappuram. Prof. Azis emphasized that the kind of facilities envisioned cannot be developed merely with the government funding and without the support of philanthropists. Historically speaking, AMU was able to build a grand edifice with the help of generous donations thatwere made by all irrespective of religion and social class, he added.

Mr. Sasi Kumar, MLA, Perinthalmanna said that the government is able to acquire the land for AMU Malappuram centre primarily because of the support of common people. The idea of AMU coming to Malappuram has raised the hopes and aspirations of the common man of the area and they were willing to see that the AMU Centre takes this shape.

True to its reputation, Aligarh Muslim University has delivered its promise today as we are all witnessing the launch of the classes. He congratulated the AMU Vice Chancellor all the functionaries for the academic initiative unfolded today.

Advocate Malakath Soophi, former Education Minister of Kerala said that the Centre of Higher Education of AMU with the background of glorious Islamic cultural ethos was very much needed to this Muslim concentrated district of Malappuram. He hoped that the Centre will contribute meaningfully to the development and prosperity of the region.

Syed Bashir Ali Thangal and Haji P.A. Ibrahim, Members of Amu Court congratulated the Vice Chancellor, Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis and said that they have personally witnessed Prof. Azis? difficulties despite that numerous hurdles he was able to transform the dream of Sir Syed by taking education to far off areas like Murshidabad and Malappuram.

While welcoming the gathering, AMU Registrar, Prof. V.K. Abdul Jaleel expressed confidence that the newly appointed Directors and their colleagues at both the Murshidabad and Malappuram centres will set a model by developing exemplary work culture and help the University to transform these Centres into an autonomous Centres of Excellence. He appreciated the development work which is being carried under the guidance of Prof. H.S.A. Yahya, O.S.D., Malappuram Centre.

Prof. H.S.A. Yahya informed about the developmental activities going on in the Centre and said that with the help of various University functionaries even at the nascent stage the Malappuram Centre was able to arrange classroom facilities, state-of-the-art computer lab, library facilities, hostels for boys and girls and thanked the state government officials of expediting construction of roads for the new campus.

He urged the Vice Chancellor to introduce Urdu language academic programme as he has received a demand from various quarters including recently held Urdu Conference at Perinthalmanna.

The Finance Officer, Mrs. Yasmin Jalal Beg, Controller of Examinations, Prof. Pervez Mustajab, Principal, Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology, Prof. Ekram Husain, Media Advisor, Prof. N.A.K. Durrani, Dean, Faculty of law, Prof. M. Shabbir, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies, Prof. Jawed Akhtar, Chairman, Department of Business Administration, Prof. Khalid Azam and Chairman, Department of Law, Prof. Iqbal Ali also participated in the programme.

Prof. Mohamed P., Director, Malappuram Centre proposed a vote of thanks.

Soon after the launching ceremony the MBA class was started with an orientation programme addressed by Prof. Pervez Mustajab, Prof. Ekram Husain, Prof. Jawed Akhtar and Prof. Khalid Azam.

The orientation programme for BA-LLB course was addressed by Prof. H.S.A. Yahya, Prof. M. Shabbir and Prof. Iqbal Ali.

Prof. V.K. Abdul Jaleel, Mrs. Yasmeen Jalal Beg and Prof. N.A.K. Durrani inspected the work in progress at the Malappuram site and issued the necessary directives for speeding up the work so that by the next June-July the classes are shifted to the allotted site of AMU Malappuram Centre.
