New Delhi: The Centre for Coaching and Career Planning at Jamia Millia Islamia is going to conduct an all India entrance test on 11 September, 2011 for minorities, SCs, STs and women aspirants of Civil Services examination 2012. The centre would provide free coaching and round the clock library and reading room facilities to the selected candidates. Free accommodation for the aspirants is also being arranged. Last year more than 1200 students from across India had appeared in its entrance test for 100 seats.

Written test would comprise General Studies and CSAT (civil services aptitude test) (objective type) on UPSC model, and Essay writing in English/Hindi/Urdu to test candidate's ability. Coaching will include classes on General Studies, CSAT and selected optional papers like History, Public Administration, Political Science, Geography, Sociology, Urdu, Hindi, Persian and Arabic. Test series and evaluation shall be carried out by faculty members of Jamia and other professionals. Essay writing practice too shall form part of the curriculum.

The centre has successfully tapped the best professional faculties of various subjects and has also regularly engaged its own internal faculty resources. Keeping in mind the changing nature of examination, the Centre is providing coaching for CSAT also, with a special focus on English language. The centre conducts regular tests to help the aspirants assess their competence.

The Academy will also conduct Mock Interviews for selected candidates in the Main examination. The Centre is in the process of building a team of experts under the supervision of the Vice Chancellor, Mr. Najeeb Jung (IAS) for mock interviews,  which will  comprise IAS/IPS/IFS/IRS, former members of UPSC, heads of PSUs, senior journalists/columnists and academics.

In the academic session 2009-10 a record number of 89 students have succeeded in various competitive examination and entrance test. This includes two selections in Union Civil services (four from Jamia), 11 in JRF-NET, 18 in B.Tech., 09 in Diploma Engg., 22 in B.Ed., 25 in ETE (Elementary teachers training) and two in Bank PO.

Recnetly the UGC has granted Rs.15 crore for setting up Residential Coaching Academy in Jamia Millia Islamia. Jamia has already allotted the work to RITES to construct hostel and Academic blocks for students preparing for various competitive examinations. Till then the admitted students will be provided temporary accommodation in the vicinity of Jamia itself.
