Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is No. 1 Private University in India in QS Asia University Rankings 2018

New Delhi: Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has emerged as the No. 1 private university in India in the latest QS Asia University Rankings 2018. Overall, it has ranked 168 out of 400 universities from Asia that were included in the report.

Out of the 35 universities from India that figured in the ranking, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is on 12th position, behind prestigious and decades old government-run institutes such as the seven IITs (Mumbai, Delhi, Madras, Kanpur, Kharagpur, and Guwahati), IISc Bangalore, Delhi University, Jadavpur University, and University of Calcutta.

Said Dr. P Venkat Rangan, Vice Chancellor, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham: “We are happy to emerge ahead of all private universities in India in the QS Asia University Rankings 2018. There are about 11,900 universities in Asia. Our securing 168 rank overall means we are among the top 1.4 percent of Asian universities. I believe we have a good chance of being in the Top 500 world rankings overall in the next 10 years. In fact, Amrita is the only private university from India to have already got into the Top 500 World rankings in the category of health and medical.”

Added Dr. P Venkat Rangan: “Inspired by our Chancellor Amma, our world-class faculty and research work are our main strength. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has an international faculty ratio score of 25.6, while the regional average is 8.9. This makes Amrita No. 1 in India on this parameter, even ahead of IITs and Central universities. On the parameter of faculty with PhD, we scored an impressive 71 compared to the regional average of 64. Additionally, with our focus on high-quality research, Amrita scored 4.9 for citations per paper, while the regional average is 4.7.”

In addition, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has been ranked 9th best university in India in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2017 of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) – the only private university to figure in the top 10 universities of the country. This is formidable achievement considering that Amrita was established less than 15 years ago.
