Ashoka University invites applications for the PhD Programme in History

 

New Delhi: Ashoka University, the pioneers in Liberal Arts and Sciences Education based in Sonepat, Haryana has announced the launch of its PhD programme in History. The application process has already begun on 17 February 2018 and closes on 5 April 2018.

APPLICATION PROCESS

The application process begins on 17 February 2018 and closes on 5 April 2018
The entrance examination will be on 16 April 2018 at 10.30 AM at Ashoka University Campus, Sonepat. The duration of the examination will be 90 minutes
The interview for eligible candidates will be on 24 April 2018 at 1.30 PM at Ashoka University Campus, Sonepat
The academic session will begin in mid-August 2018

The Department of History at Ashoka University has strengths in the history of modern India with special emphasis on histories of political violence, spatial histories, environmental histories, and Indian Ocean studies; Mughal history and military histories; and histories of ancient India, Indian archaeology, and heritage studies.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Students are expected to have a master’s degree in history or a related discipline. Additionally, preference will be given to students who already have a research degree or have experience in research work.

Fees

Tuition fee: Rs. 12,500 per semester.
One-time admission fee: to be at par with that paid by other students.
Fee for application for admission: to be at par with that paid by other students.
Dissertation assessment fee: Rs. 15,000 for the first time, and Rs. 5,000 the second/third time.
The quantum of fees paid by PhD students will be reviewed from time to time.
Teaching Assistantships

A PhD student with an MPhil may be appointed for teaching assistantships for up to 4 years, whereas a student with an MA may be appointed TA for up to 5 years.

All PhD students who have been awarded TA-ship established by Ashoka University or those receiving scholarship from UGC or “partner” organizations will be expected to work for 8 hours/week assisting with teaching courses. Assistance in teaching will include (among others) grading assignments, quizzes, or lab reports, data collection and/or analysis, and maintenance of LMS. TAs will be assigned to courses (or duties) by the Head of the Department.
