DLF Foundation kickstarts WASH Model programme to enhance quality of education

 

New Delhi- DLF Foundation, a philanthropic arm of DLF Ltd., formally unveiled the WASH Model Program at SDMC Government Primary School at Amber Hai, Dwarka, New Delhi. The objective of WASH Model programme is to enhance the quality of education in government schools through the provision of building, revamping of school infrastructure, exposure visits for students and participation in co-curricular activities. The WASH model project was inaugurated by Ms. Kamalijeet Sehrawat, Mayor, SDMC.

Chief guest, Ms. Kamalijeet Sehrawat, Mayor, SDMC said: “Thanks to DLF Foundation for taking up upgradation work in Amber Hai and supporting for CCTV screen, infrastructure development and learning aids. Toilets have been provided by DLF, but it is responsibility of the children and teachers to maintain it. Taking learnings from this project, We will provide similar facilities in Govt. schools of SDMC.”

While briefing about the WASH Programme, Dr. Vinay Sahni, CEO, DLF Foundation said: “The School Infrastructure development programme is one among the various CSR Projects undertaken by DLF Foundation. The Nurturing Talent Programme which provides support in the form of scholarships to over 1200 bright underprivileged students along with mentoring, grooming and financial assistance to meritorious underprivileged students so that they can achieve their full potential and pursue a career in a field of their choice. The Skill-a-Million Programme which is engaged in providing skills training and job placement with an aim of training one million youth in next 8 to 10 years. The Model Village Programme, that aims to transform a cluster of villages into vibrant “Model Village” and make them self-reliant.

“This initiative in the school is a part of our efforts to enhance the quality of education and learning in the government schools. DLF Foundation will continue in its endeavour to build a sustainable and inclusive society.”

Dr. Sahni further added that DLF Foundation has undertaken plethora of infrastructure upgradation activities in the school such as the construction of a New Toilet Block for boys and girls, renovation of the staff toilet into a classroom.

Ms. Krishna Solanki Principal, Government Primary school Amber Hai, Najafgarh,
said: “We are indebted to DLF Foundation in aiding the school in various ways by providing iron channel for covering electricity metre, LED screen installation at Principal’s office, windows frame for smart class, procurement of portable loudspeaker and microphone for assembly purpose, water cooler as drinking water facility and shade for water coolers. We look forward to their continuous support in future as well.”

The activities proposed under the WASH initiative to enhance the quality of education include setting up of a Child Resource Centre, quarterly events like quiz, science, mela, sports meet, national day celebration, formation and strengthening of Bal Madal, exposure visits for school children, provision of building as a learning concept on doors and boundary walls, academic facilitatorsand monthly children meeting on WASH.
