Education New Zealand hosts inaugural New Zealand – India Academic Conclave for world-class researchers, as Indian students flock to New Zealand universities

Delhi, August 20, 2018: Education New Zealand today, organized a captivating Academic Conclave in Delhi, which brought together researchers, experts and professors from across acclaimed India and New Zealand universities. The conclave promoted research collaboration between institutions, and canvassed ways to future-proof education systems for upcoming generations.

The Academic Conclave builds upon a range of initiatives that are pushing New Zealand to the fore as the preferred international education destination for students, with a 15% increase in Indian students choosing to study in New Zealand universities to June 2018.

This initiative underlines the strength of the New Zealand education system in turbocharging student’s career prospects and builds on the country’s #1 ranking as the best education system in the world in preparing students for the future, as ranked by the Economist Intelligence Unit.

Education New Zealand and all New Zealand’s universities are offering scholarships dedicated towards Indian students, through 34 exclusive New Zealand Excellence Awards. The Excellence Awards grant scholarship for study at any one of New Zealand’s universities, with applications due by 28 October 2018.

New Zealand universities have launched a New Zealand Masters campaign, promoting taught masters qualifications uniquely designed to offer students with a head-start in their careers. New Zealand masters are 18-month programmes with inbuilt flexibility that provides accelerated and extended study options to suit student’s career needs. New Zealand universities also provide career preparation and placement services, as well as internship and global student exchange opportunities.

Summary of Academic Conclave Proceedings

Ms. Joanna Kempkers, New Zealand High Commissioner, India, commenced the event with a warm welcome speech and address to the Indian government officials and representatives. Followed by a special address by Guest of Honor, Mr. Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi and Education Minister. Video message as a part of the inaugural session was given by Shri Prakash Javadekar, Hon’ble Minister of Human Resource Development. An introductory plenary session on “Higher International Education” with Dr. Richard Clarke; University of Auckland, Prof. Ravi Gooneratne; Lincoln University, Dr. Douglass Hill; University of Otago, Prof. Rajeev Sharma; The University of Waikato and Dr. Aniruddha Chatterjee; University of Otago was held post the special address. The panelists emphasized on their area of expertise and subjects of great importance and opportunities of pursuing higher education in the field of science & research in New Zealand.

Four concurrent sessions were chaired by academicians and research experts post the panel discussion.

Dr. Ramesh Rayudu; Senior lecturer, Victoria University of Wellington, Prof. Dave Parry; Associate Professor, Auckland University of Technology, Dr. Richard Clarke; Associate Dean Postgraduate Research, University of Auckland and Dr. James Carson; Senior Lecturer, University of Waikato- panelists for the first session discussed how engineers are making the most usage of data and stimulation and their measures of success.

Prof. Ravi Gooneratne; PhD in Toxicopathology and Dr. Pamela von Hurst; Leader for the BSc in Human Nutrition at Massey University threw light upon the key issues affecting food and nutrition in Asian population in the next session. Followed by the third session led by Dr. Douglas Hill; expert in Development management & Environmental Studies along with Dr. Hamish Rennie; Associate Professor in Department of Environmental Planning, Policy and Management accentuating upon public participation in environmental planning.

The final session was directed by Dr. Arun Elias, Prof. Rajeev Sharma and Dr. Joanna Fountain on “Research Collaboration and Innovation between New Zealand and Indian Business schools: Potential Pathways”. The sessions, included interesting inputs, insights and important case studies in decision making and exploring new processes.

The post lunch panel, an interesting and interactive discussion between Dr. Aniruddha Chatterjee; Senior Research Fellow, Dr. Stuart Wise; Acting Head in the School of Teacher Education & Pedagogy, University of Canterbury and Dr. Vijaya Dharan; Senior lecturer at Institute of Education, Massey University concluded with them enlightening the audience in areas of proficiency on Excellence in Research, Pedagogy and Capability Building.

An assembly was held at the end of the panel discussion focusing on the B2B academic managers, marketing managers and B2B Networking events.
