ICAR-CIFA and Dept. of Fisheries, Govt. of Himachal Pradesh signed MoUs on Improved carps multiplication and carp broodstock diet during an interactive workshop

ICAR-CIFA organized a one day workshop on “Importance of improved fish varieties and carp broodstock diet in aquaculture” at Lakeview Hotel, Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Government of Himachal Pradesh. With over 40 participants, including state fisheries officials and stakeholders, the workshop aimed to disseminate crucial information and foster collaborations in advancing aquaculture practices. Dr. Vikram Mahajan (HPAS), Additional Director of Fisheries, Himachal Pradesh, warmly welcomed all guests and participants, setting a convivial tone for the event. Dr. P K Sahoo, Director of ICAR-CIFA, and Shri Vivek Chandel (IAS), Director cum Warden of Fisheries, Himachal Pradesh, shared their perspectives on the workshop’s significance and the future trajectory of aquaculture initiatives. The sessions were led by experts in the field, notably Dr. K. Murmu, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIFA, who elucidated on genetically improved carp breeds for enhanced productivity and income generation. Dr. S. Nandi, another Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIFA, provided insights into carp broodstock diet, underscoring its importance in aquaculture. Two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between ICAR-CIFA and the Department of Fisheries, Government of Himachal Pradesh, signaling collaborative efforts towards establishing multiplier units for Jayanti rohu and Improved Catla, as well as introducing CIFABROOD, a specialized broodstock diet for carp. Dr. Som Nath, Assistant Director of Fisheries, shed light on recent advancements in aquaculture specific to Himachal Pradesh, highlighting the region’s progress in this domain. The workshop additionally included a Farmer-Scientist Interface session, led by Dr. P K Sahoo, Dr. K Murmu, and Dr. S Nandi, aimed at fostering practical exchanges and knowledge-sharing between farmers and scientists. This session provided a valuable platform for participants to discuss challenges, share experiences, and explore innovative solutions in aquaculture practices. The event concluded with a vote of thanks extended by Ms. Chanchal Thakur, Assistant Director of Fisheries (HQ), Himachal Pradesh, expressing gratitude to all participants and organizers for their contributions to the workshop’s success.
