IIM Kozhikode celebrates 23 years of Academic Excellence

Kozhikode: Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) will be completing twenty-three years of academic excellence, on August 21, 2019. As part of the foundation day celebrations, Dr. Harbeen Arora (Founder & Global Chairperson, All Ladies League and Women Economic Forum) and Ms. Shalini Warrier (Chief Operating Officer, Federal Bank Ltd.) will be addressing the students and the IIMK community.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIM Kozhikode said “IIM Kozhikode revisits its foundation values which include socio economic equity and prosperity for the nation. This year, by inviting two very prominent women to address our students and the IIMK community, we renew our commitment to promoting gender diversity and inclusivity.”

He further added “Over the past two decades, IIMK has come a very long way and is on an exciting trajectory of expansion and growth. It has been playing a pioneering role in professionalizing Indian management through its Post Graduate Programme, Doctoral level programs, Executive Training Programs and Research & Consulting Activities. Our strength lies in our innovative and learning oriented teaching practices and contemporary industry-specific curriculum which is strongly backed-up by our sturdy corporate interface. We pride ourselves with the high quality of our faculty who have built a name for themselves in top quality teaching, high impact corporate training, and extremely relevant research.”

Founded in 1996, IIMK was the 5th IIM set up by the Government of India. The Institute has grown significantly in its intellectual output, students, resources and infrastructure in these years. The institute was ranked 6th among all management schools in the recent NIRF rankings for higher education launched by the Ministry of Human Resources Development. The points scored by IIMK for various parameters indicated that the Institute is doing well in Teaching and Learning Resources, Graduation Outcome and Outreach and Inclusivity.

Starting in 1997 with a batch of 42 students in its Post Graduate Programme (PGP), IIMK is on a high growth trajectory today. PGP student’s intake for 2019 was 485 students i.e., more than 11 times increase in 23 years thus making it one of the fastest growing management school in the country. Additionally, IIMK is successfully mentored IIM Amritsar, the 15th IIM in the country, from 2014 to 2019.

Some of the notable highlights over the last two decades are: Creation of the supernumerary women-only additional batch of 60 for PGP in 2019; Setting up IIMK LIVE (Laboratory for Innovation, Venturing and Entrepreneurship) with the support of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India to create a National Centre of Excellence; incubation of a Centre of Excellence jointly with Government of Kerala, one of its kinds in India, to help the Scheduled Castes/Tribes students overcome their deficiencies in communication and personality; pioneered Interactive Distance Learning for working executives in India; accreditation from London-based AMBA for its PGP and Executive PGP; raising women enrolment to over 30%, thereby setting trend for other management schools; opened the first Indian Business Museum in 2013, acknowledging the contribution of India’s business leaders in the making of Corporate India.
