IIT Roorkee organised India Africa forum Summit-III to train African National on energy and efficiency and conservation

 

Mumbai: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee is currently hosting a Training Course on Energy Efficiency and Conservation between 25th February 2019 and 1st March 2019 for African Nationals under the India Africa Forum Summit – III.

This training course involves 50 participants from 12 African countries (Central African Republic, Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Zambia and Zanzibar) which were identified and selected by Indian Missions in respective countries and sponsored by Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India. The participants are from different government organizations who are responsible for energy conservation and efficiency programmes in their own country.

During the summit & training sessions the experts from IIT Roorkee, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), state electricity regulator, national productivity council (NPC), Indian renewable energy development agency, UREDA and UPES shall be sharing their expertise and Indian experience with the participants.

In today’s day and age, energy conservation is of prime importance to everyone and it will help if institutions like IITs spearhead such initiatives. We are happy to have our African friends join us in this course under the aegis of India Africa Forum Summit- III and thereby contribute towards further strengthening Indo-African ties.” said Prof Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee while addressing the participants during inaugural session on Feb 25, 2019. Prof Arun Kumar, coordinator of the training, appreciated such wide participations from a large number of developing African nations in the efforts of mitigating climate change through achieving energy efficiency and conservation for which Indian has launched “national mission on enhanced energy efficiency” and a large scale use of energy efficient appliance like LED bulbs and PAT programme has become in common use.

The experts and African officials will also have opportunities to visit and go through the activities including research projects undertaken by IIT Roorkee for achieving energy efficiency specially in saving electricity by way of efficient appliances, solar power production, solar water heating, solar power based steam cooking and LED based street lighting. Also select Industries in SIDCUL and energy efficient building of UPES in Dehradun who have undertaken energy efficiency measures shall be visited.

In year 2011 IIT Roorkee was been awarded for best government building state energy conservation and for maintaining a green campus office. Keeping the spirits high and focusing on mutual development of India-Africa partnership, capacity building, training, and nurturing of the human capital has been committed by Govt of India under India Africa Forum Summit – III held in 2019.
