IIT Roorkee team named “Hold right there Sparky

Roorkee: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee team named “Hold right there Sparky!!”, under the leadership of the coach Balasubramanian Raman and contestant Devanshu Agarwal, Samarth Joshi, Abhishek Kanhar bagged 41st position and 49th rank in the World and 2nd among Indian teams in the World Finals of 43rd International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC World Finals) held at Porto, Portugal recently.

The contest had 11 problems to solve and the players were supposed to solve each problem by coding it through computer programming within a certain time limit and come up with its output. The contest fostered creativity, teamwork, and innovation in building new software programmes and enabled students to test their ability to perform under pressure. Out of 135 teams all over the world IIT-R was amongst the 8 teams that was been selected from India.

Expressing his joy Prof. Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee said “Wonderful achievement by our students. I believe that participation in such prestigious international contests give the students a platform to showcase their talent and also expand their horizon”.

The ICPC is an annual multi-tier programming competition among top universities from all over the world and is widely regarded as the Olympics of programming and one of the hardest programming competitions in the world.
