Indian Students win International Mars Art Contest 2017

New Delhi: Students of Indian origin in association with Universe In The School Programme of SPACE have bagged several awards in the International competition ‘Student Mars Art (SMArt) Contest 2017’ sponsored by The Mars Society, USA. Young artists of the associated schools submitted their works of art depicting any phase of the human future on the planet Mars, from first landing to full settlement, to share their love and passion for Astronomy and space science in the form of art.

Mr. Pankaj Bahmba, Director, SPACE has congratulated the winners and said that, “We as an organization and countrymen are proud and glad to see students excelling in their category, showing fantastic prowess in the innovation and creativity to the whole world.”

Devina Manchanada of GD Goenka Public School, Model Town have won a cash prize of $500, Second position in the category of elementary school. Arna Kakkar , Gaurish Anand and Gopika Chawla of GD Goenka Public School, Model Town have won cash prize of $250, Third position in the category of elementary school. The Honorable Mention includes Japman Singh of KR Mangalam World School, GK II; Aditya Prakash of Bal Bharati Public School, Pitampura; Anvi Gaur and Rachit Birman of Sri Venkateshwar International School, Dwarka; Yash of Indraprastha International School, Dwarka.

Winners have received a special invitation to 2017 International Mars Society Convention at the University of California, Irvine September 7-10 to display and talk about their art.

The interest of the school towards cultivating a scientifically aware mind in the students has led the school towards active participation in Astronomy and Space science oriented projects and events. Such platforms are provided to the students to have a fruitful interaction of students with the global scientific community and to focus on the progress of the students and drive them to generate interest through practical experiences and disclosure to later in the field of Astronomy and Space Science.
