Korea University Receives KRW 1.08 Billion Donation from Young Steel Co., Ltd. President Choi Sang Young
Choi Sang-Young, President of Young Steel Co., Ltd. (’69, Department of Business Administration), made a generous donation of KRW 1.08 billion for the development of Korea University in anticipation of its 120th anniversary. With this donation, President Choi’s total cumulative donation has reached KRW 3.3 billion.
A ceremony to accept the donation of President Choi Sang-Young of Young Steel Co., Ltd. for Korea University’s development fund was held at Ilmin Lounge, Centennial Memorial Samsung Hall.
While serving as the President of the Korea University Alumni Association in Japan since 1992, President Choi has contributed to the establishment of a cooperative relationship between Korea University and Waseda University in Japan. Since 2003, he has consistently made donations for the development of Korea University. He has provided generous support for the students of his alma mater by making donations to the development fund of Korea University Business School and the Korea University Alumni Association scholarship fund, and by fully sponsoring the training costs of the university’s rugby team players. In recognition of these contributions, President Choi was awarded an honorary doctorate in Business Administration in March this year.
At the donation ceremony, President Choi said, “I am very pleased to be able to contribute to Korea University, the hometown of my heart. I have always had a grateful heart and a commitment to sharing, donating, and volunteering. I will continue to make donations and to contribute to social activities. I hope this donation will be helpful for the development of Korea University as it approaches its 120th anniversary. I would like to thank President Kim Dong-one and the university staff for organizing the donation ceremony.”
In response, Korea University President Kim Dong-one said, “I would like to express my gratitude to President Choi Sang-Young for his continued support for the development of his alma mater. I believe that with individuals like President Choi, who care about and support Korea University, the school can continue to progress. The generous donation President Choi made to the development fund will be used wisely as Korea University takes new steps towards a great future in anticipation of its 120th anniversary.”
