MDI concludes its Annual Convocation Ceremony

New Delhi: Management Development Institute, recently bid adieu to the graduating students of the batch of 2017-19 of MDI Gurgaon and 2016-18 and 2017-19 of MDI Murshidabad at its annual convocation ceremony. The convocation ceremony, held on March 26, 2019 at the MDI campus, was graced by the august presence of the Chief Guest Shri K. V. Chowdary, Central Vigilance Commissioner.

The ceremony was also graced by the newly inducted members of MDI Board of Governors – Ms. Preetha Reddy, Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited (AHEL); Mr. Rajnish Kumar, Chairman, State Bank of India; Mr. TV Mohandas Pai, Co-Founder and Chairman, Aarin Capital and Mr. Ritesh Agarwal, Founder & CEO of OYO Hotels & Homes.

From the batch of 2017-19, a total of 489 students from different Post Graduate Management Programmes and 7 Fellow Scholars were conferred diplomas from MDI Gurgaon. The institute also awarded 23 medals to meritorious students. MDI Murshidabad conferred diplomas on 61 students from its PGPM programme, which included 32 students from the PGPM 2016-18 batch and 29 students from the PGPM 2017-19 batch.

Addressing the annual convocation, Dr. Emandi Sankara Rao, Chairman, MDI Board of Governors congratulated students of the outgoing batch of MDI Gurgaon and MDI Murshidabad. Motivating the students with his words, he added, “Great changes in the world have often been brought about by young people with a passion driving them. The time is now, for each of you to seize the opportunity at hand and create your own legacy.”

Prof. (Dr.) Atmanand, Director (Additional Charge), MDI Gurgaon and Director, MDI Murshidabad in his address, shared the new initiatives, achievements and the progress of the institutes. He said, “As an internationally acclaimed B-school, we have created a benchmark for sound management practices and professionalism. MDI through the years has lived its vison to create thought leaders and harbingers of change.” Speaking to the students, he further added, “The education at MDI has equipped you to grab the opportunities coming your way; but only you can make sure you do not miss them. “

The year 2018-19 saw the creation of the Bloomberg Finance Lab with 8 Bloomberg Terminals in MDI Gurgaon and 4 Bloomberg Terminals in MDI Murshidabad.

After conferring of the diplomas, the Chief Guest Shri K. V. Chowdary, Central Vigilance Commissioner, imparted his words of wisdom with a few golden rules. He advised, “Follow Dharma, Artha, Kama to the best of your abilities, practice truth, continue learning- the world is open to you. Do not neglect your responsibilities towards society and follow ethical living. Education is lifelong process, have a spirit of enquiry, relentless research and see education as a liberating experience.”

The placements at the MDI Gurgaon for PGPM, PGP-IM & PGP-HRM programmes for 2017-19 batch year was a grand success as a total of 106 companies visited the campus for recruitment, out of which 36 companies were first-time recruiters. The highest salary offered this year was Rs.40.79 lakhs per annum, while the average salary was Rs.20.13 lakhs per annum.

MDI Murshidabad concluded its final placement for the batch of 2017-2019 in a record time and witnessed an increased participation of recruiters by 64%.

Surveys conducted by leading publications like Business World, Business Today, and India Today, have ranked MDI Gurgaon among the top 5 B-Schools in India. The Times of India in its recent Times B-Schools Survey (2019), ranked MDI Gurgaon, number 1 under Top Private Institutes/B-Schools; number 3 under Top 100 B-Schools in the country and number 1 under Top 20 North B-Schools of India. MDI Gurgaon also received the Business World Education Leadership Award for its contribution in management education.
