New Delhi: India which is a major hub for students from developing countries has seen a dip in the number of foreign students to India. With the recent government efforts to attract foreign students to India, one of the ed-tech start-up working in the areas of education ‘MereExams’ has tied up with Nepalese Students Helping Hands(NSHH) & African Student Association in India to provide proper career & education guidance to these students. The team from MereExams after studying their interests would help out these students through different channels such as webinars, online support on the website & on call on the type of university, courses, stream to choose, opportunities in the discipline, when to apply, fee structure, & other academic related queries etc. This would benefit approx 30,000 students who come to India in search of quality education.
The students from Nepal & Africa when they arrive in India for education are completely unaware of the colleges, admission, courses options etc. as they are misguided by agents or consultants based in Nepal & Africa. With proper guidance, these students can get better opportunities & good exposure in India. Now, these students can reach out to MereExams through Nepalese Students Helping Hands (NSHH) & African Student Association in India who in turn help & provide guidance to each interest as per their interest & discipline.
The composition of India’s overseas student body has changed drastically over the last 15 years. Nigeria is still the fourth biggest source country for foreign students in India, even though the share of African students coming to India has been declining. According to the All India Survey of Higher Education (AISHE) 2011‐12, Nepal contributed the highest percentage of foreign students in India with officially 45,424 foreign students enrolled in India in 2015-16.
According to Karan Sachdeva, Co-founder, MereExams, “The objective of our tie-up with Nepalese Students Helping Hands(NSHH) & African Student Association has been to provide proper guidance to these students. With the help of these associations, we are trying to address the issues faced by these students. We earlier did a workshop in Nepal where we received tremendous response from the parents & saw the pain that parents go through while sending the students to India. He further added that with the platform of MereExams, we aim to make India the next education hub.”

In the words of Kushu Kumar Mandal, President – NSHH, “India is a favorable education destination for the students of Nepal, but students have been misguided by several educational consultancies. We as an organization felt a need for a genuine platform where our students could be guided in a proper way. To address this problem, we tied up with MereExams which is a right platform that provides proper guidance of higher education to the students.”

He further added that one-day workshop was held in Nepal during which the team of MereExams addressed queries of all the students and parents and guided them via one-on-one interactions and later even via messages and calls.

According to Samuel Abiye Jack, President – African Students Association, “Our tie-up with MereExams will help our students with unbiased judgment in educational opportunities, career growth and which path they should opt for. This is critical as students from Africa were provided with ambiguous interpretations and many times over the top definitions of the actual benefits of attending a particular college and moreover after their admission the students faced real trouble which they couldn’t cope with.”
