Miss Diva 2017 Winners Builds Homes for Underprivileged Families of Karjat

Mumbai: The winner of Yamaha Fascino Miss Diva 2017 Shraddha Shashidhar, along with Apeksha Porwal, Miss Diva 2017 2nd runner-up and Peden Ongmunamgyal, Miss Diva 2017 Supranational participated in the ‘BUILD’ campaign initiated by Habitat for Humanity India. Three of them volunteered to build home of Harichandra Rere who lives with his family in Karjat, Maharashtra. By associating with this initiative, they aim to spread awareness for the cause of decent shelter and improved sanitation for underprivileged families in India.
Harichandra Rere (32) the beneficiary of this build activity, lost his house in the last year’s rains. The only thing left of the house that Harichandra resided in for the past 7 years are the bamboos which holds the roof. Harichandra with his wife Girja (28) and daughter Pushpa (10) has been sharing a roof with his brother for the past one year. Even before the rains destroyed their home, there was water leakage from the roof during rains and fear of reptiles entering their home. There is no electricity in the house and no water supply. Harichandra is a farmer by profession and has a small land where he cultivates rice. Girja helps in earning money for the family by doing labour work. “It is very difficult to be at home in someone else’s house. Eventually own house is our house” expressed Girja. Pushpa, the only daughter is very bubbly and enthusiastic girl. She studies in the 4th standard and is very good in her studies. Harichandra has very high expectations from Pushpa. “I have only one daughter and I have big dreams for her. I want her to focus only on her studies and excel in life. My own house will help me build a better life for her.” said, Harichandra
Shraddha Shashidhar, Winner of Yamaha Fascino Miss Diva 2017, said, “As an individual of this country, it is the responsibility of each one of us to work towards the upliftment of our society.
