Mrida partners with Lady Irwin College for the National Nutrition Week

New Delhi: On the occasion of the National Nutrition Week, Mrida, a Social Business Venture focused on sustainable rural development, through its health and nutrition brand, Earthspired and Lady Irwin College, University of Delhi, organised events focused on “Feeding Smart from the Start”. The National Nutrition Week was celebrated from 1st to 7th September 2019 and this is the second time that Earthspired collaborated with Lady Irwin College.

The theme “Feeding Smart from the Start” focuses on the importance on complementary feeding, which is the introduction of solidfoods into the diet of infants, from the age of 6 months up to 2 years. Based on this theme, Earthspired hosted 3 contests to engage students. These included:

· Recipe Contest based on the theme ‘ Reviving and Improvising. Inclusion of Millets in Infant Food’

· Slogan Writing Contest based on the theme ‘NutritiousChoices in Regional Diets for Complementary Feeding’

· Food Photography Contest based on the theme ‘Nutritious Choices in Regional Diets for Complementary Feeding’

The event witnessed the participation of students participating from Lady Irwin College, Vivekanada College, IHE (Institute of Home Economics), IHM (Institute of Hotel Management) Pusa, Lakshmibai College and Manav Rachna International Institute of Research & Studies.

The Food Photography was judged by Chef Sandeep Kalra, Executive Chef at the Trident Hotel, Gurgaon and recipient of the Best Chef of the Year, 2019 award by IHA. The chef announced the winners on video, and provided a detailed explanation for his selection of the winners – the feedback of the chef was well received and added excitement to the day’s activities.

The event also had interaction seminar’s with Ms. Iksha Chhabra, Business Head of Earthspired, on internship opportunities with Mrida: an intersection between the social sector and the FMCG sector. Wellness Coach & Nutritionist Avni Kaul also present at the event, was one of the judges for the recipe contest, and conducted an interactive session on entrepreneurship for the participants.

The day ended on a high note, with the HOD of the Food & Nutrition Department of Lady Irwin College, Dr. Manisha Sabharwal announcing that the event will be held yearly, and the contests will be conducted as part of a rolling trophy.

The partnership between Lady Irwin College & Mrida Group is an industrial -academic partnership, with Mrida Group providing interested students in specific fields the chance to apply their knowledge and gain experience in the field through working on women’s empowerment, textiles and the FMCG vertical, Earthspired.
