National Geographic in collaboration with IIM Shillong organized the screening of the Oscar-winning documentary Free Solo

Shillong:  Leadership development has always been at the helm of IIM Shillong’s vision. On the 23rd of August 2019, National Geographic in collaboration with IIM Shillong organized the screening of the Oscar-winning documentary Free Solo at the institute. The event kickstarted with an inspiring speech by Prof Sanjeeb Kakoty, Professor, IIM Shillong and a batch address by Ms. Saachi Dhillon, PR Lead of National Geographic India. This was followed by the screening of Free Solo, a movie that documents the journey of professional rock climber Alex Honnold in his attempt to climb the famed El Capitan rock of Yosemite National Park and thus stands as a manifestation of the lives of people who want to defeat the hurdles in their path to achieve perfection.
The event culminated with a case discussion between the participants of the institute and trekking guru Mr. Maninder Kohli, who compared the journey of a rock climber with that of a manager and how both can get over impediments through sheer force of perseverance and tenacity.
This is the second time when National Geographic has partnered with IIM Shillong. The collaboration initiated in 2018 when National Geographic screened the channel’s series “Mega Icons” on former President and the beloved “missile-man” of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam who breathed his last while delivering a lecture at IIM Shillong.
