Schools and Colleges participate in Rotary’s Mega Yoga Utsav

Chennai: Over 90 leading Educational Institutions in Chennai which included top of the line schools and well known colleges, organized a one hour program in the early morning hours to celebrate the International Yoga Day. This was put together by Rotary Club of Madras East (RCME).

According to Rtn Ananth, President, RCME, “This initiative by The Rotary Club of Madras East, ONGC and TI Cycles powered by Sri Sri Art of Living and Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram got tremendous response from Schools and Colleges in Chennai. We estimate that around 50,000 students participated in this mega event.”

Some of the prominent schools and colleges which participated in the mega event include SBOA Group, DAV Group of Schools, Velammal, Devi Academy, Vidyodaya, Ramakrishna Group of Schools, PSBB Millenium Group of Schools, Lalaji Omega International School, BVM Group of Schools, National Public School, La Chatelene, D.B. Jain College, MNM Jain College, VIT Kelambakkam, TSN College and all the 15 colleges of Vinayaka Mission University etc.

At the SBOA School, where around 3000 students participated, a Special Day Cover was released by Mr. J.T. Venkateswarlu, Post Master General, in presence of Shri Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Union Minister for Civil Aviation and Rtn Natrajan Nagoji, District Governor, RI Dist 3230.

A Special feature of this year celebration was the presence of the NCC Battalions at several campuses in Chennai and outstation areas. All the battalions of NCC were well represented in more than 20 locations with over 7,500 student members actively taking part in the initiative of the Central Health Ministry. At the YMCA, Nandanam, families and common man participated with full enthusiasm.
