Roorkee: The North Zone Convention – 2010 of SPIC MACAY will be held at IIT Roorkee from 16th to 19th September, 2010. SPIC MACAY is a non-profit, voluntary, non-political and participatory youth movement. It is dedicated to enriching education by presenting a holistic vision of Indian culture, its priceless heritage of Classical, Folk and Community traditions. From its inception, thousands of volunteers, mostly youth, have participated in the movement, holding aloft its aims and objectives. SPIC MACAY today is a network of over 200 chapters in India and 30 abroad. About 2000 programmes are organized every year in schools and colleges spread over India where Maestros of Indian classical and folk traditions spread awareness about the many splendored cultural heritage of India through Lecture-demonstrations, concerts and workshops.

The movement could take roots only due to the unstinted support and blessings of the dozens of our classical and folk traditions. It has matured and grown to its present level due the self-less efforts of the students and young volunteers and, financial and moral support of individuals, well wishers, industries and Governments - both State and Central. The IIT Roorkee chapter of SPIC MACAY has been in the forefront of this movement for more than 25 years and holds a large number of     programmes in the campus as well as in the schools and institutions in the neighborhood.

SPIC MACAY IIT Roorkee chapter is organizing the North Zone Convention 2010 from September 16, 2010 to September 19, 2010 this year as part of its silver jubilee celebrations. The convention will showcase some glimpses of our rich Indian cultural heritage in its pristine beauty through many activities. This would enable students from all over Northern India to interact and learn directly from experts by attending intensive workshops in the field of music, dance, art and craft. Concerts at the convention would include performances by artists of international stature. It will also provide a forum for the students to interact meaningfully with their peers from different regions of North India, as also with senior members of SPIC MACAY family.

The event shall include nationally reputed artists like Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Rajan Sajan Mishra, Gundecha Bandhu, Pt. Shashank Subramanium, Debu Choudhary, Munisha Nayak etc. The event shall include college & school students. We seek your kind assistance in this regard and would like our event to be published in your magazine. Please do join us in this cultural renaissance.
