Chandigarh: Chitkara University enjoys a highly successful partnership with University of Applied Sciences, Osnabrueck, Germany. "Through this holding of hands and sharing of experiences, new horizons have opened up in the highest realms of global education. It was overwhelming to have a group of Professors and Students from Germany in Chitkara University for a week under the student exchange program between the two universities for MBA Healthcare Management students. The program consisted of field visits to various healthcare organizations in Delhi and Chandigarh along with guest sessions from experts in Public and Private domain in Healthcare to give them an overview of Indian Healthcare system. Brig. (Dr.) RS Grewal, Vice Chancellor, Chitkara University welcomed the delegates and shared the prestigious history as well as future goals of the Chitkara Educational Trust. On the first day, the delegates were slated to attend series of Guest lectures by Dr Ravul Jindal, Senior consultant and Vascular Surgeon from Fortis Healthcare, Prof. Keerti Pradhan, Adjunct Professor with Chitkara School of Health Sciences and Dr BK Prinja, Ex Associate Director RCH Haryana Health Services. The Delegates spent some time with mentally challenge children of "Prayaas" They also visited the Old Age Home Sec-43. It not only gave them an understanding of our Geriatric care a but also lightened up the faces of the inmates of the old age home who shared their experiences enthusiastically with the group. The Visits to the Homoeopathic College & Hospital Sec 26, Govt Medical College & Hospital Sec 32 and Fortis Hospital, Mohali gave them an overview of Indian Healthcare system. The delegation visited Fortis Escorts Heart Institute at New Delhi wherein presentation on Healthcare facilities was delivered by Dr. Raajiv Singhal, Facility Director at Escorts with his team. They got a chance to visit National Institute of Health and Family Welfare. Prof. Deoki Nandan, Director NIHFW detailed the delegation about various health care schemes run by Govt. of India in order to spread awareness about various diseases. Thereafter the delegation was taken to National Health Systems Resource Centre at New Delhi. Madam Susham Rath, Principal Administrator interacted with the delegation and briefed them about Rural Health Mission of Govt. of India and various incentive schemes for the people who are helping Rural population getting aware about certain healthcare facilities and other schemes. The delegation interacted with one of the renowned and accomplished personality in healthcare, Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman and MD, Medanta - The Medicity. The team also visited Outreach Screening camp managed by ADEH, Gurgaon. They also visited ADEH (Arunodaya Desert Eye Hospital) at Gurgaon and appreciated the efforts being done by ADEH to care the people. Dr. Nishant Jain from GTZ, Delhi delivered talk to the team members on "Overview of Health Insurance in India".
Prof. Dr. Heike Schinnenburg, Director - Postgraduate Programmes and Prof. Dr. Carsten Steinert Director - Bachelors Programme form Fachhochschule Osnabruck University of Applied Sciences, Germany expressed deep appreciation for Dr Madhu Chitkara and Dr Ashok Chitkara on behalf of the group for giving them the opportunity to visit India and to have an overview of Indian Healthcare system . Dr Andreas Fiehn said such exchange programs can play a significant role in bringing the healthcare professionals together and developing an understanding about ground realities which can not be fathomed merely by reading about them in books. Guided tours of Shimla were perceived by the group as memorable experiences.
