Shriram Properties Bengaluru Marathon to attract more than 14,000 runners

 

Bangalore: After the resounding success of previous three editions, Shriram Properties Bengaluru Marathon once again beckons the citizens of the city with yet another exhilarating edition of the marathon, touted as the ‘City Run’. The marathon aims to attract more than 14,000 runners across all age groups. This run is AIMS (Association of International Marathons) certified which ensures the distance is measured by a certified official for accuracy for the full and half marathon.

The fourth edition of the marathon was formally announced during a curtain raiser press conference in the city, in the presence of accomplished athletes. The marathon will have three different categories – the full marathon of 42.195 km, the half marathon of 21.1 km and the 5K Hope Run.
Unveiling the route map for the event, Mr. B N S Reddy, IPS (Karnataka), IGP & Director, KSRTC said, “India needs to foster a culture of sports, fitness and health among the country’s young and old alike, and it’s initiatives like these that will go a long way in achieving this objective. Events like Shriram Properties Bengaluru Marathon give the community a fun approach to health and fitness.”

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. M Murali, Managing Director, Shriram Properties said, “Bangalore needs a marathon which they can call their own, and Shriram Properties Bengaluru Marathon is dedicated to Bangaloreans, which they can proudly call Namma Marathon. The event has become a part of every running enthusiast’s annual calendar. The City Run, as we would like to call it, will give the citizens of this city a sense of pride and encourage them to participate in large numbers. The USP of the run would be hot breakfast for all the participants and eco-friendly practices. The event will have reusable cutlery for water and food. During the last year’s event, there were dedicated team which ensured zero waste by not using plastic covers for T-shirts and medals. The runners came up with the donation of used shoes in good condition, to the needy. This year too, the focus will be on minimal usage of plastic and paper. The runners and organizers, together, will give their best to keep the city clean during and after the race.
