Shriram Transport Finance Company Partners with Piramal Swasthya to Announce the Launch of Mobile Primary Healthcare Programme in Pune, Maharashtra

 

Pune: Shriram Transport Finance Company Limited, in partnership with Piramal Swasthya, an initiative under the aegis of Piramal Foundation (the philanthropic arm of the Piramal Group), today announced the launch of Mobile Primary Healthcare Programme in Pune, Maharashtra. The unique Programme, operating at strategic service points, endeavours to make quality primary healthcare services available, accessible and affordable especially to truck drivers, helpers and their families. Currently, 14 Mobile Medical Vans focused with serving an average of 640 truckers daily are operational across India, funded by STFC and managed by Piramal Swasthya.

In India, truck drivers have to cover long distances, and are prone to a multitude of health risks, that are often neglected. To address the health needs of this community, the Mobile Primary Healthcare Programme aims to conduct screening, diagnosis, treatment and referral for non-communicable diseases (Diabetes & Hypertension), communicable diseases and minor ailments. The Programme also focuses on creating awareness, education and counselling on healthy practices and management of non-communicable diseases.

Mr. Umesh Revankar, MD & CEO, STFC commented, “Nature of work by truckers makes them a vulnerable community with multifold health problems. Their nature of duty also systematically excludes this community from the basic health care service systems. The Mobile Medical Van initiative by STFC envisions, filling the gap in providing timely and accessible healthcare services to transport fraternity.
