Sixth Edition of CMR National Moot Court Competition Inaugurated
Bengaluru: The sixth edition of the three-day CMR National Moot Court Competition (NMCC) was inaugurated today at the CMR University, School of Legal Studies in the presence of Hon’ble Justice Shivraj V. Patil, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India & Former Lokayukta, State of Karnataka. Hon’ble Justice L. Srinivasa Reddy, Former Judge, High Court of Karnataka & Chairman, Governing Council, CMR University, School of Legal Studies and Prof. (Dr.) M. S. Shivakumar, Vice Chancellor, CMR University were also present at the event.
Currently in the sixth edition, the CMR VI NMCC 2018 will have more than 24 colleges form all over India competing in two preliminary rounds and will be judged by experienced advocates, professionals and law teachers from Bangalore. The theme for the current edition is ‘International Law involving issues of the law of evidence and the laws of inheritance’. The problem for the current edition has been drafted by Dr. Julius Nayak, an accomplished advocate experienced in law and policy.
The CMR National Moot Court Competition, which is the flagship event is organized on alternative years as a biennial event. It is an event that caters to the currently exploding requirement of quality in legal education. The competition has been envisioned as a national level event attracting the participation of top law schools and colleges from all over India. The teams will compete to win cash prizes worth more than Rs 50,000. The competition has drawn the attention of notable legal luminaries, who have promised to share with us their experience, expertise and patronage.
Speaking at the event, Justice Shivraj V. Patil, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India & Former Lokayukta, State of Karnataka, said “The present day scenario for the law studies has changed completely; now studying of law is well respected and recognised as compared to the past. In a person`s life the 3C`s: Compassion, Character and Commitment are the pillars in the path of success. In the field of law, it`s alright to bend law in certain instances of humanitarian ground but not break them.”
Shri. K. C. Ramamurthy, IPS (Retd.), Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha & Chairman, CMR Group of Institutions, said “We are pleased to conduct this competition which aims to provide the basic need for students pursuing law, to become remarkable in future. Education has to be beyond and significant in all the activities. We want the students to be confident and well prepared to tackle any situation in future.”
