Skill India partners with Sashastra Seema Bal to train unemployed youths of the Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan Border areas

New Delhi: Offering an impetus to Skill India Mission, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), working under the aegis of Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship has partnered with Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) under the Ministry of Home Affairs to train youth unemployed youths of the Indo Nepal and Indo Bhutan Border areas. NSDC announced commencement offirst batch of SSB on 10th Dec at Falakata and Bongaigaon centres in West Bengal and Assam respectivelywhere 30 candidates in each batch are getting trained on Housekeeper-cum-Cook job roleapproved under Domestic Worker Sector Skill Council.
Training will be conducted at 11 locations which has been identified by SSB and training will be conducted under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) Special Project, that has set a target of training 1,320 candidates in a year. Till date,8 locations identified are, Pithoragarh (Uttrakhand), Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh), Muzaffarpur(Bihar), Ranchi (Jharkhand), Falakata (West Bengal), Bongaigaon (Assam), Bhilai (Chhattisgarh) and Bomdilla (Arunachal Pradesh).
SSB will provide infrastructure and support in mobilization of the candidates from villages in border areas and Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) affected areas of the selected states.The program is aimed at providing equitable employment opportunities to the youth in the Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan border areas post training and certification.
Commenting on the association, Shri Rajesh Agrawal, Joint Secretary and CVO, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, said,“This Special Project under PMKVY aims to equip retired personnel with skill training to help them continue a life of dignity post their retirement. The program also invites youth in insurgency-hit areas, who have struggled to find avenues of employment due to lack of education and vocational training. It provides them opportunity to realize their potential and secure a sustainable livelihood.”
“We are ensuring inclusivity across all segments of society by empowering them with requisite skill sets to keep them in mainstream market and add to the nation’s growth story,” he further added.
Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana’s Special Project component is a unique initiative that is targeted to impart skilling/training to candidates especially from marginalized communities or geographically difficult areas. Some of these projects have been at Tihar Jail, Rashtrapati Bhawan, Governor House, Police Stations (Project Yuva) among others.
