TCS recognised in CSR excellence for fourth year running

Mumbai: Tata Consultancy Services (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS), a leading global IT services, consulting and business solutions organisation, has been awarded Gold status in the EcoVadis annual report on CSR performance across global companies. This high-profile certification is the fourth consecutive year TCS has been awarded the top accolade.

With research from economic consultancy, EPG, suggesting that Fortune 500 companies are now investing over $15 billion on corporate responsibility initiatives annually1, the importance of measures to ensure ethical, sustainable and responsible business practices remains high on the agenda of global business leaders. The latest recognition from EcoVadis highlights TCS’s commitment to sustainable business practices and to making a positive contribution to the communities it operates in around the world.

This year’s report analysed each company’s performance across four main CSR categories: environment, labour practices & HR, fair business practices and responsible & sustainable supply chain. The results placed TCS in the top 2 percent of all companies, when averaged across all four categories.

Ajoy Mukherjee, executive vice president, TCS, commented, “We’ve invested heavily in CSR and sustainability, whether in digital skills and adult literacy, or making sure our supply chain and procurement procedures are ethical and sustainable. This accolade from EcoVadis puts us in the top 2 percent of firms globally and is recognition of the importance we place on sustainability from the top to the bottom of our organisation. As a business that is having a major impact around the world through digital innovation, we want to make sure the wider communities we operate in also benefit.”

TCS has now reduced its carbon footprint by over 9 percent, and has cut its emissions by 49 percent since 2007, helping the company inch closer to its 2020 target of a 50 percent total reduction. As of March 2017, the business has supported 664,675 people around the world in areas such as digital skills and education, health & wellbeing and environmental sustainability.

In addition, TCS also successfully completed the 2Together for Sustainability audit in January 2017 – an in-depth, industry-leading analysis designed to create benchmarks for sustainable supply chains.

David McClintock, marketing director, EcoVadis, commented, EcoVadis’s annual CSR assessment is a comprehensive analysis that looks at 21 sustainability criteria across four themes. Receiving our Gold recognition is a significant achievement. TCS has shown for the fourth year running an innovative and proactive approach to its CSR initiatives, and the company is ranked in the top 2 percent globally.”
