Unique course offers CPA Program alongside a Master’s degree

Mumbai: Lincoln University is teaming up with CPA Australia to produce New Zealand’s first professional accounting programme delivering a Master’s degree alongside a world recognized professional accounting qualification.

Lincoln University’s Master of Professional Accounting (CPA) provides extensive academic support for candidates who are considering enrolling, or are currently enrolled, in CPA Australia’s Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) Program. This is a 180-credit Taught Master’s degree, achieved by completing nine 20 credit courses.

Programme Director for the Master of Professional Accounting (CPA), Dr Carol Cheong, said studying separately for two qualifications required a lot of sacrifices from students in terms of time and energy.

This enables students to obtain two academic qualifications alongside each other, leaving them more time to spend with family and friends but at the same time, provide them with the necessary business and technical skills to advance their career”.

Besides the CPA Program courses, students will also take some of Lincoln University’s business and management courses, so the combination offers the best of both worlds.

Upon completion, students receive a Master’s degree and will have finished the CPA Program. After satisfying CPA Australia’s requirement for 36 months relevant work experience, graduates will be eligible to apply for full membership of CPA Australia.

The internationally-recognized CPA program extends beyond the technical accounting subjects to include courses such as Ethics & Governance, and Global Strategy & Leadership.

The face-to-face learning, structured guidance and support offered by Lincoln University, will complement the CPA distance education program.

Through Lincoln University’s courses, students will develop a range of skills in communication, negotiation and people management. This will equip students with the necessary technical and business skills to succeed in an ever changing global environment.

Developed jointly by CPA Australia and Lincoln University, the degree boosts employment opportunities for accounting students in accounting firms, consulting firms and industry.

Entrants need to have the equivalent of a New Zealand Bachelor’s degree with a B average or better, CPA Australia Associate membership, and IELTS 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0). Students do not need prior work experience to enroll in the programme.
