World University of Design launches Professional Program in Automotive Modelling (PAM) for students passionate about automotive design

New Delhi: The World University of Design (WUD), India’s first and only university dedicated to education in the creative domain, announced a specialized Diploma program in Professional Automotive Modeling (PAM). The 2-stage advance diploma will be offered in close collaboration with Desmania Autostudio. The Course will include the essential techniques of hand modeling for pre-visualizing final products in clay and/or digital modeling of designs in Alias.

The Professional Automotive Modeling (PAM) programs will prepare graduates for employment as a 3D modeler in the transportation and product design industries. The Program is designed to prepare the student for high demand positions at original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the auto and product industries. The University offers two choices of tracks to study i.e. Clay and Digital. One can opt for both the tracks but only one track of study can be completed at a time. Before taking the next step for Advanced Diploma program students must complete the diploma successfully.
Elaborating on the Diploma programs, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Vice Chancellor Designate at World University of Design said, “We are delighted to partner with Desmania Autostudio. This association will provide an opportunity to the students to acquire skills related to automobile and manufacturing industry through specially designed “Learn and Earn” approach, consisting a mix of theoretical and On-the-Job Training (OJT) components, thereby equipping them with high employability potential. The highlight of the program is the collaboration with the industry for live projects/workshops as a part of the curriculum, which is designed to give a ‘headstart’ to its students in working with professional designers and also network with the industry from an early stage. WUD provides access to excellent facilities including dedicated design studios, traditional modelling workshops supported by a comprehensive range of advanced CAD/CAM and Rapid Prototyping machines.”

Mr. Anuj Prasad from Desmania Autostudio said, “We are known to create sustainable brand impact through Design Thinking. This course will give vision to graduates in finding leading positions in the automotive and transport industry and will give them the chance to develop the skills and understanding to work as a modeler in all fields of Automotive and Transport Design. It is fantastic to be asked to join such an initiative. This programme aims to develop highly creative individuals to resolve the prevailing/future challenges around ‘mobility’, through imparting relevant skills and knowledge. It’s an effort to let students gain some experience of working with wood, metal, plastics, glass, ceramics and automotive styling clay”.

For Diploma in Clay Modeling and Alias- Digital 3D Modelling, the University offers 15 Seats each to both of the courses. Students will get to learn about translating original design concepts into 3D clay models using industry standard tools and methods. Also, to work from orthographic drawings and work with design direction to transform a designer’s vision into a tangible reality. It will be an intensive skill-based programs which will have inputs in design fundamentals, form studies, technical design, digital modelling, materials and model making. This Course will also generate ability in students to work with fine detail, problem solve structural and design issues, and work at a high level of skills in Alias®. Though involved in the creative process, sculptors are the last link between design and manufacturing, and need to communicate well with both Designers and Engineers.

Clay Modelling and Digital 3D modeling both are widely used in the automotive and product design industries as a way to previsualize concepts which help in decision making before taking the products further for manufacturing. The related skill sets are much in demand, and their availability well below the desired supply.

Both the program will start from 1st August 2018. Applications are available on the University’s website.
