UNSW among top three Australian universities for graduate employability
Sydney: UNSW Sydney is among the top three Australian universities for graduates finding jobs, according to the latest QS rankings.
Of the 500 institutions published in the 2018 QS Graduate Employability Rankings, UNSW is ranked third in Australia and 36th in the world.
The QS ranking follows last month’s maximum five-star rating for ‘Getting a Job’ in the Good Universities Guide.
The QS Graduate Employability Rankings were launched in 2015. As well as graduate employment outcomes, they rate employer reputation, partnerships with employers, presence of employers on campus and achievements of alumni.
UNSW scored very highly in Employer Reputation (94.7%) and Alumni Outcomes (90%). It was also above the Australian average for Partnerships with Employers and Research Collaboration with Leading Companies.
“Following the Good Universities Guide five-star rating for getting a job, the QS rankings reinforce how highly sought after our graduates are in the workforce,” said Professor Merlin Crossley, UNSW Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education).
The University of Queensland exceeds expectations for graduate employability
The University of Queensland has been identified as one of the top 30 universities in the world for partnerships with employers.
The QS Graduate Employability Rankings position UQ 29th of 600 measured institutes for successful collaboration with global companies to produce citable, transformative research and work placement-related partnerships.
Acting UQ Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Aidan Byrne said UQ ranked well above the Australian and global averages on five detailed performance areas assessed in the latest QS report.
“Not only was UQ among the leaders in regard to partnerships with employers, but it was also ahead of the pack in all other facets,” Professor Byrne said.
“We pride ourselves on simultaneously being a leading research institution, providing an outstanding environment for education, and facilitating the placement of graduates with employees who will turbo-charge their careers.
“The rankings results are not through luck and it’s been a concerted effort for UQ to raise the bar in forming partnerships with employers.
“To those who have worked so hard within the university and to our collaborators in industry, this is deserved praise for having the vision to positively influence the life trajectories of thousands of graduates.”
Aside from partnerships with employers, the additional criteria measured in the QS Graduate Employability Rankings were graduate employment rate, employer reputation, alumni outcomes, and employer-student connections.
Within Australia, UQ was ranked fourth after considering all criteria, and first within Queensland.
Five years of records were considered for the rankings.
UQ was highly judged for having research collaborations with 47 companies listed in the Fortune 500 and Forbes 2000. In June UQ unveiled a ground-breaking co-located research facility with Boeing.
At a period six months after graduation, 87.3 per cent of UQ graduates were found to be employed.
UQ was given scores of 92.9 out of 100 for partnerships with employees and 87.9 out of 100 for its graduate employment rate.
