10 Day Carrom Board Competition tourney begins in Kishtwar under Operation Sadbhavana


KISHTWAR : The Army has been at the forefront in its effort to promote games and sports in Jammu and Kashmir.

With the aim to infuse sportsmanship and camaraderie among the youth of Kishtwar and also to channelize their energies in positive direction, the Helipad Battalion of Indian Army today organized Kishtwar Carrom Board Competition for the local youth.

The event generated immense enthusiasm among the locals wherein 180 students from across the schools of District Kishtwar participated in the competition.

The competition is a 10 day event and will be conducted in four categories of Age Appropriate Groups namely under the fourteen years, under seventeen years, under nineteen years and open category.

The winning participants will get access to district level competition and further will represent the district at state level competitions.

The intense carrom duels and contests between striker and carrom coins would inevitably entice to draw large crowds to the venue in all the league matches. The competition will provide a perfect platform to the youth of Kishtwar to showcase their performance and hone their skills.

Speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony, the District Youth and Sports Services Officer, Kherati Lal Sharma highlighted the benefits of the said tournament, encouraged the participants and thanked the Indian Army for organising this tournament.

It is pertinent to mention that the Army has been organizing different sporting events under Operation Sadbhavana to divert the energy of the youth towards a positive direction.

The Principals and parents present for the occasion expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Army for organizing this event and appealed for more such events in the future to nurture the sporting talent in Kishtwar.
