104 Books Donated to Marathi Section of AMU’s MIL Dept.
Aligarh: On the solemn occasion of the death anniversary of his mother, Shobha Patil-Ankhi, Prof. Kranti Pal, the in-charge of the Punjabi section of the Department of Modern Indian Languages (MIL) at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), made a generous donation to the Marathi section. Prof. Pal gifted 104 books to honor his mother’s memory and her love for Marathi literature.
The event was graced by Mr. Arvind Narayan Mishra, Public Relations Officer of the Uttar Pradesh Punjabi Academy, who attended as the chief guest. The programme was presided over by Prof. T. N. Satheesan, Chairperson of the MIL department.
In his address, Prof. Kranti Pal shared heartfelt memories of his mother, stating, “My mother was originally from Nagpur. After her marriage, she moved to Punjab, bringing with her the rich culture, language, and culinary traditions of Maharashtra. She had a profound love for reading and collected numerous Marathi stories, novels, and plays. Today, I am honoured to donate these books to the Marathi section in her memory.”
Dr. Taher H. Pathan, in-charge of the Marathi section, emphasised the significance of of reading, noting, “Books hold a unique place in human life. They enhance awareness, stimulate creativity, and enrich our minds. The exemplary gesture by Prof. Kranti Pal’s on his mother’s death anniversary is truly commendable.”
Mr. Arvind Narayan Mishra highlighted the timeless value of books, saying, “Books are our best companions, available whenever needed. They guide us through life’s challenges, helping us distinguish right from wrong. Reading transforms our personalities and alleviates stress, providing a sanctuary in our busy lives. Prof. Kranti Pal’s tribute to his mother through this donation is a testament to the enduring legacy of literature.”
Prof. T N Satheesan, in his presidential remarks, underscored the crucial role of books in a student’s life. “Books are steadfast companions during the struggles of student life, guiding and supporting at every stage. Developing a reading habit is essential for all students. The books donated by Prof. Kranti Pal will be invaluable for study, teaching, and research in Marathi and other languages.”
The event saw attendance from notable figures, including Prof. Mr. A. Nujum, Dr. Kasim Pathan, Dr. Tamil Selvan, and Mr. Rafsal Babu, among others, who collectively praised the philanthropic gesture and its positive impact on the academic community.
