13-year-old brought laurels to EuroSchool by winning State Cycling Championship

Bengaluru: Savion Babu, grade 8, student of EuroSchool North Campus- Yelahanka, brought honour to the school by winning first prize in the 16th State MTB Cycling Championship. The championship was organized in Bilagi town of Bagalkote district, Karnataka where Murugesh Nirani, Minister of Medium and Large-Scale industries of Karnataka was a chief guest.

 

Savion Babu won the first prize by grabbing first place at multiple events under the International Time Trial followed by the under-14 category of Mass start event. This achievement of Savion helped him qualify for the upcoming National Championship happening in Pune on 30th and 31st October, where he will represent the Karnataka State.

 

On receiving the award from the Minister, Savion, said, “I love cycling. I was six years old when I learned cycling. Since then, till now it has become an important part of my life. I started professional training four years ago. All the credit for this achievement goes to my parents, my school, and my coach Mr. Kiran Kumar Raju who has won the men’s national championship thrice. My coach always encouraged me and trained me to participate in different competitions. I am very excited to participate in the upcoming National Championship and feel honoured to represent my Karnataka state.”

 

Delighted with Savion’s achievement, Vandana Gupta, Principal EuroSchool, said, “Savion’s achievement has made the entire school proud. He is an outstanding student since his early grades, with a long list of achievements not just in academics but also in extra-curricular activities. State MTB Cycling Championship is organized by the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), an organization that is a pioneer in the promotion of cycling sports in India affiliated to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC) and Union Cycliste International (UCI). This is the sole body recognized by the Ministry of youth affairs and sports, Govt. of India for the promotion of the sport of cycling in India.
