15 Indian Information Service Officers of 2017 batch complete their professional training at IIMC
New Delhi: 15 Officer Trainees of the 2017 batch of Indian Information Service, Group A, today successfully completed their two years Induction Training at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication in New Delhi. They will now join different media units of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, beginning their journey as Government Communication Officers. Secretary I&B, Shri Amit Khare was the Chief Guest at the Valedictory Function, which was attended by all the media heads including Shri Sitanshu Kar of PIB, Ms. Sadhana Rout of Publications Division, Shri Satyendra Prakash of Bureau of Outreach Communication, Shri Mayank Agrawal of DD News among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Amit Khare stressed upon the importance of continuous training and skill upgradation during the career of an officer. Quoting from the famous book “What They Don’t Teach You At The Harvard Business School” he said beyond the formal training, frequent peer group interactions provide for a refreshing learning experience. Shri Khare said IIS officers function as communication officers, and as such have an important role to play in the government system. He asked the officers to be tech-savvy and keep pace with the rapidly changing information and communication scenario. “The challenge is to respond swiftly and firmly on real time basis” he added.
DG, IIMC Shri Kuldeep Singh Dhatwalia in his address outlined the training road map of the Institute, while Ms. Mamta Varma, Course Director, presented the training report.
S Gowtham was adjudged the Best Officer Trainee of 2017 batch, while Ms. Sarla Meena bagged the second spot.
IIMC, the premier mass communication institute in the country is the training academy for the Indian Information Service Officers, who are recruited through the UPSC Combined Civil Services Examination. It also conducts a number of short courses in communication for various government organizations, armed forces, PSUs and civil society organizations.
