Its first statistical report was prepared by the UC Law Clinic on the work carried out in 2022. The entity, a pioneer in Chile, celebrated 50 years of work a few weeks ago, which consists of providing free legal and psychological care to people who require it.

In this context, the report reports more than 1,500 people treated free of charge this year: specifically, 1,507. This, considering 612 old cases that are in force and 895 new cases. In addition, these figures highlight that there were more than 100 foreigners, from different Latin American countries, who requested care from the Legal Clinic in 2022.

Considering these 895 new attentions that were added this year, the report from the Legal Clinic details that family and patrimonial issues led the interdisciplinary attentions, the same areas that lead the first legal interviews carried out with each person who requested help.

“The objective of preparing this report is to share and reflect the enormous work carried out by all the units that make up the Legal Clinic” – Jaime Castillo, director of the UC Legal Clinic

“Interdisciplinarity is also being worked on in other areas. In this sense, the students in practice at the School of Social Work have made great progress in the interdisciplinary issue and have worked on innovative projects”, commented the director of the Legal Clinic, Jaime Castillo, adding that they have also “increased attention in matters of Public Law and SMEs”.

The report shows that more than 300 cases ended in a trial, close to 120 attentions culminated in an orientation process -which implies attention and delivery of a report to advance in the solution of each person’s problem- and around 350 cases ended in an advisory.

Professor Castillo explained that “the objective of preparing this report is to share and reflect the enormous work carried out by all the units that make up the Legal Clinic through a detailed report, whose analysis can also allow a permanent improvement in our care” .

In addition, he highlighted the figures provided by the report, noting that “the challenge is that it will always be necessary to provide a better service to the large number of users who trust the UC Legal Clinic.”
