15th Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards Postponed

New Delhi: The Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META) Festival 2020, scheduled from March 13th to 19th 2020 at New Delhi’s Kamani Auditorium and Shri Ram Centre, has been postponed due to the increasing global concern on the Coronavirus infection. The fifteenth edition of META will return with new dates and schedule will be shared soon.

Jay Shah, Vice President, Head – Cultural Outreach at the Mahindra Group, said, “We were all ready and excited to present the Festival this month and this has been a very difficult decision. However, given the serious health concerns, the safety of our audiences and artistes remain our top priority.”

The META Secretariat would like to reiterate its sincere appreciation to the theatre fraternity and media for having supported the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META) and Festival over the past 15 eventful years and hopes to continue scaling new frontiers together.

META 2020 received over 385 entries, which were scrutinised by META Selection Committee who arrived at the final list of 10 nominations that were to be staged at the national capital in order to compete for the coveted META honours. The 10 nominated plays give a diverse flavour of themes, languages and genres of stagecraft from across India and include entries in varied languages such as Hindi, English, Hindustani, Bengali, Marathi, Malayalam, Assamese (blended with gibberish) and a non-verbal play.

Promoted by the Mahindra Group as part of its cultural outreach and curated by Teamwork Arts, a pioneering arts and entertainment company, META annually rewards and recognises the country’s best productions and performances, along with their makers and facilitators, providing encouragement to India’s vast theatre industry across regions and languages, with an aim to increase not just awareness, but also appreciation of fine theatre.
