This seminar consisted of two parts: frontier lectures and demonstration lessons. Famous Academicians ZHENG Yongfei from USTC, LI Shuguang from China University of Geosciences (CUG), and ZHANG Hongfu from Northwest University (NWU) were invited to introduce the frontiers and research hotspots in the field of geochemistry. Besides, experienced teachers from all over the country were invited to deliver demonstration lessons, including skills about how to sort out the knowledge points and the key contents. After each lesson, speakers explained their teaching methods and discussed with the audience, so that they could have the chance to learn from each other, correct the deficiency, and improve the lesson’s quality, which benefits both teachers and students.

This seminar, to cultivate comprehensive, high-level, and interdisciplinary talents and to improve the quality of undergraduate talent training effectively, provided a stage for discussion and training on the construction of the core curriculum content of Geochemistry, the innovation of teaching methods, and the improvement of teaching capabilities. All in all, it’s good for helping young teachers to absorb advanced skills and promote their rapid growth, with the awareness of “Strengthen morality education and cultivate people” established.

The successful holding of the geochemistry teaching seminar effectively helped promote the teaching level of geochemistry courses, found novel teaching methods conform to the trend of the times. Finally, it also demonstrated USTC’s strong comprehensive strength in the area of geochemistry.

This seminar was sponsored by the Teaching Steering Committee of Geology Specialty in Colleges and Universities of the Ministry of Education and undertaken by USTC and CUG.
