24 POSTECH Students Triumph at 30th Samsung Humantech Paper Awards

POSTECH students distinguished themselves at the 30th Samsung Humantech Paper Awards ceremony, hosted at the Samsung Finance Campus in Seocho-gu, Seoul on February 7.

Among the 78 university and graduate student winners, POSTECH students clinched 10 awards, comprising one gold, one silver, three bronze, and five consolation prizes, spanning 10 categories. Thus, the contest entrants from POSTECH garnered prizes in seven out of the ten categories.

In the Basic Science category, Physics majors Woochan Jung and Seyoung Jin (advisor: Gil-Ho Lee) secured the gold award for their analysis of superconducting spectroscopy in artificial phase band structures within three-terminal graphene Josephson junctions, contributing significantly to foundational research in topology.

Seungjoo Shin from the Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence (advisor: Jaesil Park) received the silver award for reconstructing 3D images using minimal storage capacity equivalent to a single photograph through binary encoding.

The list of bronze award winners includes Sujeong Kim, Hyeongwoo Lee, Huitae Joo and Jinhyuk Bae from the Department of Physics (advisor: Kyoung-Duck Park), Changhun Lee from the Department of Convergence IT Engineering and Jungyu Jin from Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence (advisor: Eunhyeok Park), and Yunhui Jang from Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence (advisor: Sungsoo Ahn).

Consolation prizes went to Sangjun Park and Jangwoo Ha from the Department of Mechanical Engineering (advisor: Hyungyu Jin), Hojun Lee and Jongjun Lee from Department of Physics (advisor: Hyun-Woo Lee), Suwon Seong, Seongmin Park, Taejun Ha and Hyunyoung Cho from the Department of Electrical Engineering (advisor: Yoonyoung Chung), Hyeonjang Pyeon from the Department of Convergence IT Engineering (advisor: Soohee Han), Myungji Kim from School of Interdisciplinary Bioscience & Bioengineering (advisor: Jinah Jang), and Huitae Joo, Hyeongwoo Lee, Mingu Kang and Sujeong Kim from the Department of Physics (advisor: Kyoung-Duck Park).

The Samsung Humantech Paper Awards, the largest academic paper awards in Korea targeting high school, university, and graduate students, were initiated by Samsung Electronics in 1994 to discover outstanding individuals in science and technology. This year, a total of 1,189 papers were submitted, of which 115 were selected as award-winning papers.
