51 Meritorious Girl Students Felicitated in Shopian

Shopian :Felicitation of meritorious girl students in a grand function organised at GDC Shopian marked the celebration of National Girl Child Day, here today.
The District Development Commissioner Shopian, Choudhary Mohammad Yasin was the chief guest on the occasion.
Congratulating the girl students for their outstanding performance in matriculation examinations, the DDC impressed upon them to continue hard work to shape their future and become torch bearers for spreading the message of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao in the district.
He said that under BBBP Scheme sustained efforts are underway to promote education of girl child and reduce school dropouts. He gave out that under district wide BBBP campaign, births of 200 newly born baby girls were celebrated and books and scholarships were provided to poor girls to support their education and10 libraries for girl students in some of the remotest schools are being constructed.
Besides, numerous awareness camps and sensitisation programs on PCPNDT Act were conducted across the district.
Skits and songs on theme of importance of girl child and their education was organised by team of Cashmere Foundation.
On the occasion, 51 meritorious girl students were felicitated in presence of their parents for outstanding performance in matriculation examination including 1st position holder in the district, Sahana Majid with 98.8% marks, 2nd position holder, Sania Mushtaq with 98.6% marks and 3rd position holder Gousia Shafi with 98.4% marks.
Among others ADC Shiekh Abdul Aziz, DSWO Mohammad Shafait, Prof. Nisar Ahmad, Dy. CEO Javaid Ahmad, CDPO Shopian Nazir Ahmad, CDPO Keller Shakeela Akhter, TSWO Farhana Tak, WWO Mohasina Mukhtar, officials of District Level Centre for Women and faculty members of GDC Shopian participated.
