5th Edition of Udaan Utsav 2020 Showcased Social & Environmental Issues

New Delhi: Showcasing the foundation of Modern India, the 5th edition of cultural festival – UDAAN UTSAV 2020 commenced today at Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi at 11:30 am. The theme of the festival this year is ‘Digital World – Old vs New’, ‘Jai Jawan- Jai Kisan’, ‘Celebration of Womanhood’ and ‘Inspirational Unsung Heroes’.
Udan Utsav 2020 was inaugurated by the prominent film maker, educationist and social activist from Delhi & NCR. The event started with traditional lamp lighting ceremony by Dr. Geeta Bhatt – Director, Non Collegiate Women Education Board (NCWEB), University of Delhi, Kamlesh Mishra, National Award winning filmmaker, Avtaar Saini, President – Sangeet Natak Academy, Sumit Maluja, Convenor, UDAAN and Anupam Bhatnagar, President-UDAAN.
The day saw participation of students from SRCC, Atma Ram Sanatan Dharm (ARSD), Mata Sundari, Shymal Lal College, etc. displaying their creative skills in Street play and Visual Art exhibition. Today, there were 17 teams for the street play competition, which had different themes to showcase – Jai Jawan – Jai Kisan, Celebration of Womanhood, Yoga, Human Values, New Vision of New India and Environmental Issues. The performances were highly applauded by the audience.
Along with the street plays, there was a visual art exhibition on relevant topics such as Save Earth, Your Environment is Your Home! Protect It; Peace; Indian Culture; Social Harmony; Transgender & Women Empowerment. Students from Kalindi College, Noida International University, College of Art, Sarada Ukil School of Art & others exhibited their talent on Poster, Cartoon, Canvas & Oil Paintings. Each and every work piece of students showcased interpretation of reality and modern day society challenges that is present.
Udaan Utsav was started today; will go on till March 6th, which will see participation of students in 9 different fields – On the Spot Writing Competition, Film Submission by participants and Film Judgment by Jury Panel, Music, Folk Dances (Group), Visual Art (Painting Competition & Poster Making Competition), Film Screening & Panel Discussion and Story-telling Competition.
Speaking about the event, Dr. Geeta Bhatt Director, Non Collegiate Women Education Board (NCWEB) said, “Udaan Utsav is a celebration of art and culture thus showcasing immense talent amongst the youth and millennials. It also builds competitive spirit amongst the youth which is relevant in today’s modern world. I would like to extend my best wishes to all the teams, students, teachers and mentors participating in Udaan Utsav 2020.”
Sumit Maluja, Convenor of UDAAN, said, “Udaan welcomes all the students thus bringing the youth together to showcase India’s contemporary issues. These students are exhibiting their cultural prowess in a common platform in sharing their voice over challenges and creating awareness about these challenges.”
He further added that “Today the youth of India is socially conscious and their contribution is critical to the society as a whole.”
The three days of Udaan Utsav 2020 would be full of colours, dreams, youthfulness, celebrations and excitement.
