68th All India Cooperative Week-2021 celebrations held at Anantnag

 

ANANTNAG : As part of the Week long celebrations of 68th All India Cooperative Week that commenced from 14th November, a grand District Level function was today presided over by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr. Piyush Singla at Dak Bungalow, here.

The function was organized by the Department of Cooperative District Anantnag.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC stressed on the officers of Cooperative Department to work with dedication for achieving desired goals. He advised participant Cooperators to focus on the fields of Dairy, Fishery, Horticulture and other potential areas and hoped that the department will make every effort towards a viable and vibrant Cooperative Movement in the District.

Dr Singla also focused on the need to highlight successful initiatives in the cooperative sector among the masses to attract new talent into this sphere.

Earlier, the Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies Anantnag in his inaugural address highlighted the achievements of the Cooperative Societies and informed the gathering that in District Anantnag 50 Cooperative Societies stand registered and are functioning under J&K Cooperative Societies Act, 1989.

He said the Cooperative institutions in the district are operational in diverse economic activities like sale of essential commodities like Kerosene oil, Sugar, fertilizers, Poultry, Dairy, Sheep, Timber, Medicines and distribution of credit among the rural members.

He informed that during the year 2020-21, the Cooperative Societies have registered a business turnover of Rs 1471.69 lacs and so far during the current financial year up to 31, October 2021 the Cooperative Societies have registered a business turnover of Rs 1036.61 lacs which include fertilizers Rs 93.57 lacs, consumer goods Rs 421.19 lacs, medicines Rs 187.11 lacs, Poultry business Rs 26.55 lacs, Dairy Rs 6.91 lacs, Sugar 71.04 lac, Timber 15.49 lacs and other Rs 214.75 lacs.

Further, the Deputy Registrar said that UT administration has taken pragmatic steps for revival of the Cooperative Sector and in this regard handsome financial Assistance is being provided to the Cooperative Societies under schemes, Repairs and renovation of Cooperative assets, Special Assistance and Managerial subsidy.

It was also informed that face-lifting/ modernization of Super Bazaar Anantnag with an estimated cost of Rs 50.97 lacs is under execution in the district.

The speakers spoke at length on the history of the Cooperative Movement and its contribution in the Socio-economic development of the State/UT. The initiative of Cooperative Societies by involving themselves into the newer commercial gainful areas like business of Sugar, imported Timber and other activities have been appreciated by all.

The function among others was attended by the District officers of the line departments, Chief Executives of Cooperative Banks, Assistants Registrars, field functionaries both Supervision and Audit wing of Cooperative Department, renowned Cooperators, representatives and Managing Committee members of different Cooperative Societies.
