74th Republic Day celebrated at NIT Rourkela

NIT Rourkela community today celebrated the 74th Republic Day. Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao (Director, NITR) unfurled the National Flag at the NCC ground, NITR followed by the National Anthem.

Delivering the Republic Day address, Prof. Rao said, “This Republic Day is a special one as it comes to us in the year when we are celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The unique strength of the country is its youthfulness and diversity. It is our collective responsibility to build a better future for all and to create a more equitable and prosperous society. As faculty and staff of NITR, we are expected to raise our bars high, strive continuously to teach better, and produce research results that rank among the world’s best along with strengthening the institute administration. On this moment of Republic Day, let us commit ourselves whole-heartedly and work towards taking our institute to the next level of excellence. The nation needs our accountability and involvement in society for prosperity and growth. I also appeal to all to safeguard the environment and resources. Wish you all a very happy Republic Day 2023. Jai Hind!”

Prof. Rao then administered the ‘National Integration Pledge’ to all the attendees of the event. The program included March Past by students of NIT Rourkela who are enrolled in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and security guards. High school students (govt. school situated on campus) also sang a patriotic song along with participating in the parade. Prof. Manish Okade was the host of the event.

During the event, 7 non-teaching employees were also felicitated for winning the ‘Best Performance Award’ for the academic year 2021-22. Their names are:

1. Mr. Dibya Kishor Pradhan (Assistant Librarian, Biju Patnaik Central Library-NITR)
2. Mr. Chittaranjan Mishra (Superintendent, SRICCE Office)
3. Mr. Harihar Barkey (Senior Superintendent, Establishment Office)
4. Mr. Sumanta Kumar Moharana (Senior Assistant, Director’s Office)
5. Mr. Narayan Prasad Bariki (Senior Technical Assistant, Mechanical Engineering Department)
6. Mr. Bhanu Pratap Behera (Senior Technical Assistant, Electrical Engineering Department)
7. Mr. Bibekananda Parida (Senior Technician, Food Process Engineering Department)

The event concluded with prize distribution to NCC cadets and certificates to all the students of the different troops who participated in the Republic Day parade. The faculty and staff club also celebrated Republic Day at their respective Clubs. Prof. Rohan Dhiman (Registrar, NIT Rourkela) unfurled the National Flag at Staff Club and said, “This auspicious day reminds us about the implementation and importance of the Indian constitution. Hoisting the flag today and forgetting it tomorrow should not be the outcome of this day. The constitution is the root of democracy which teaches us about our rights and duties. It tells that the roles of the general people are the most important factor in building the social republic of a nation. So let us pledge on this occasion, to truthfully adhere to our duties and contribute towards the construction of a better society.”

Prof. Sidhartha S.Jena (Dean, Student Welfare) unfurled the National Flag at Technology Club (faculty and officers club). Students also joined for commemorating this patriotic event at their boys/girls hostel premises followed by celebrating the Basant Panchami festival at Dilip Tirkey Stadium organised by the Hall Management Council, NITR.
