8th & 9th Convocation of IIM Tiruchirapplli held on 29th May 2021

Tiruchirapplli: The 8th and 9th Annual Convocation of students of the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM), Post Graduate Programme in Business Management (PGPBM) and the Doctoral Programme in Management (DPM) at IIM Tiruchirappalli, was conducted on Saturday, May 29th 2021, virtually, through an interactive live webcast. This was a joint convocation for the 8th and 9th batches of the PGPM, PGPBM and DPM programmes.
Padma Shri awardee Dr. Sridhar Vembhu, the founder and CEO of Zoho Corporation was the Chief Guest for the event. The chairman, Shri Jalaj Dani delivered the inaugural address and declared the convocation open.

The Director, Dr. Pawan Kumar Singh welcomed the Chief Guest, Board of Governors, Students, Parents, Alumni and members of the Media. He congratulated the graduates and their parents for reaching this milestone despite the troubling times. He presented the report for the 2 academic years, 2019-20 and 2020-21, where he highlighted the launch of the EDPM programme, the launch of the PGPM-HR programme, the various achievements of students in the field of sports, corporate and B-School competitions such as TATA Crucible, KPMG Ideation Challenge, Godrej LOUD, HSBC IB League, CFA Ethics Challenge among others. He also spoke about the placements in the academic year 2020-21 where recurring recruiters like McKinsey, JP Morgan Chase, Shell, L&T, visited the campus, as well as new recruiters such as Bain and Co., BNY Mellon, and Apollo tyres. The Director also spoke about the institute’s tie-up with foreign universities such as Emylon Business School, Solbridge International School of Business and other institutes which gave 17 students the opportunity for foreign exchange. He also highlighted the institute’s international week where faculty from renowned universities across the globe offer niche electives to the students. Other important takeaways from his report include the institute’s Learning Resource Centre migrating their services online to provide the students with remote access and social activities undertaken by the institute through MAD, the CSR club Elixir, and their MoU with Young Indians. He concluded by advising the students to choose their actions properly, respond spontaneously and listen to their hearts.

This was followed by an address by the Chairman Shri Jalaj Dani, where he lauded the students for their resilience during these times and welcomed the Chief Guest, who he deemed an entrepreneur oar excellence and a role model. He appreciated the students’ efforts and promised them that every learning will be worth it. He assured them that the institute will always have their back and wishes to reunite with them as successful alumni. He asked them to strive to be catalysts for positive change, be energetic and initiate change as the movers and shakers of the new era.

Post this, he presented degrees to the students of the 8th and 9th batch of the DPM, PGPM, and PGPBM programmes.

The Chief Guest presented medals and awards to following students for their meritorious achievements and all-round performance.
The Chief Guest, Padma Shri Dr. Sridhar Vembhu delivered the convocation address, where he conveyed the value of being resilient under the current circumstances. He emphasized how the Covid crisis exposed our resilience and how new opportunities came into being amidst the chaos and calamity of the pandemic. Following this address, the convocation was declared as closed.

The convocation ceremony was attended virtually by the Members of the Board of Governors, Faculty Members, graduating students, staff, parents, members of the media and other distinguished guests. The solemn occasion concluded with the national anthem.
