AMU faculty speaks in 3rd Global RE-Invest 2020

Aligarh: Prof Mohd Rihan, Department of Electrical Engineering, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) discussed how energy suppliers can use digital tools to improve operations and explored the transformational potential of digitalisation for creating a highly interconnected energy system.

He was one of the invited speakers in the panel discussion on ‘Internet of Energy; the World of AI and Digitization’ in the 3rd Global RE-Invest 2020 organised by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India.

Prof Rihan shared his experience of research work, manpower training, and successful integration of 6.5MWp solar PV with the campus distribution system.

In the discussion, Prof Rihan emphasised that the application of AI and Digitization is a must for effective integration of RE sources. He spoke on transactive energy systems, management and control of distributed solar plants, forecasting of load, big data analytics in view of the data volume from solar plants, smart meters, and PMU installation.

“The panel was particularly appreciative of the fact that AMU is following the policy of implementing in practice what is being taught in the lectures,” said Prof Rihan adding that the panelists opined that the setup provides a great opportunity for faculty and students to address research questions as well as educate the workforce and pursue collaborative work with the industry also.

The panel, which explored how artificial intelligence and digitalisation are set to play a crucial role in the large scale integration of renewable energy had professors and experts from the Hitachi ABB Power Grids, DTU, Solar Energy Research Institute, Singapore, Bloom Energy, USA, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and Indian Institute of Technology Delhi.
