UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC) will host the webinar

‬On December 17, 2020, the UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC) will host the webinar entitled Towards universal access to higher education: international trends.

The program will address higher education access worldwide to inform relevant actors in governments, institutions and society, on the progress made and the remaining challenges, as well as its support to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The program will begin with the official launching of the UNESCO IESALC report entitled Towards universal access to higher education: international trends, presented by Daniele Vieira, research coordinator and policy analyst at UNESCO IESALC.

Following this presentation, UNESCO delegates Anasse Bouhlal, Programme Specialist for Education in the Arab States; Abdoulaye Salifou, Regional Advisor for Higher Education and ICT in Africa; Libing Wang, Chief of Section for Educational Innovation and Skills Development (EISD), Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education, Bangkok, Thailand; and José Antonio Quinteiro, Program Coordinator at UNESCO IESALC, Latin America, will hold a dialogue on access to higher education in their regions based on the following questions:

  • How has UNESCO contributed to democratizing access to higher education over the past two decades?
  • How has access to higher education progressed in your region over the past two decades?
  • Which drivers and policies have contributed to this progress?
  • Thinking ahead, what policies can expand the benefits of higher education, in particular for vulnerable groups?

After the presentations, the panelists will respond to questions from the audience. A member of the UNESCO IESALC analytical team will close the meeting with conclusions.
