Youth from villages around Katamati become industry ready with the support of Tata Steel Foundation

Joda: As the demand for industry-ready technicians keeps soaring, local youngsters from villages surrounding the Katamati Iron Mine located in Keonjhar district of Odisha are all set to embark on the path of making successful careers. As many as nine youngsters from Deojhar, Anseikela and Birkela Panchayats are soon finishing a 3-year diploma course at the Tata Steel Technical Institute (TSTI), Jamshedpur, which has had a 100% placement record since its inception in 2014.

These nine students have received a full scholarship from Tata Steel Foundation to pursue their dream courses such as Mechatronics, Electrical and Electronics at the coveted institute in Jamshedpur. Moreover, Tata Steel Long Products has also sponsored their lodging and boarding to ensure no hiccups in their endeavors.

Ms Priyanka Munda, who is one of the nine students currently studying at TSTI, says, “I have always been ambitious and have wanted to become an engineer. I come from a very humble background. But with the support received from Tata Steel Foundation, I now have a lot of faith in my future.” Priyanka along with her batchmates will soon complete their education and appear for placements to secure jobs across India.

Mr BK Singh, Principal of the institute, says, “We have also provided tablets or laptops to all our students to ensure e-learning as well. We regularly send study material and also conduct online tests”.

Tata Steel Technical Institute (TSTI), Jamshedpur, established in the year 2014, was setup with a vision to improve the quality of technical education and to cater the requirements of the industries in the country. TSTI an active role to meet the latent demand for skilled workforce in industries by upgrading the trainee’s technical skill and competency through holistic approach to enhance the employability of the rural and urban youths. TSTI has well-equipped laboratories, workshops, classrooms and professionally experienced faculties.
