Postage stamp to be released on December 27 on birth centenary year of renowned journalist Late Mama Manikchandra Vajpayee
Bhopal : Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan will be the chief guest in the postal stamp release ceremony to be organized on the occasion of the birth centenary year of renowned journalist Late Shri Manikchandra Vajpayee. Former Governor of Haryana and Tripura Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki will preside over the programme. On this occasion, National Organization Secretary of Indian Council of Literature, Shri Shridhar Paradkar, will be the main speaker. The event is being held at Minto Hall, Bhopal from 2:30 pm. The Department of Public Relations is the programe organizer. Shri Manikchandra Vajpayee: An Introduction
Shri Manikchandra Vajpayee who became popular as Mama ji was born on October 7th, 1919 in Bateshwar, Uttar Pradesh. Mama ji served as the Organizing Secretary of Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1953. In the year 1966, the publication of Swadesh (Indore) newspaper started on Vijayadashami and Mama ji joined them as editor. Later, in the year 1971, he also played an important role in Gwalior Swadesh and other editions of Swadesh. Mamaji was sent to jail during emergency. But his writing could not be banned. He stayed in Indore jail for 19 months. He continued to write editorials from the jail. He lived his life for the society and country. He was the editor of Swadesh till 1985. Till the end, he remained associated as editor, consultant editor and editor-in-chief for the editions of this newspaper in Bhopal, Jabalpur, Sagar, Raipur, Bilaspur, Gwalior, Guna and Jhansi. He passed away on December 25, 2005. The Government of Madhya Pradesh has designed this special programme on Mamaji’s birth centenary year in view of the services rendered by him in the field of goal-oriented journalism. The postal stamp issued by the Department of Posts in his honour is an honour for the entire world of journalism as well as Mama ji.
